“Bees and the Plants They Love to Need” and “It’s Time to Get Rosy” will be presented on Thursday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluebonnet Regional Branch. Master Gardener Debi O’Neill is a native of Baton Rouge and has been a bee keeper since 2016. She is passionate about gardening and loves the wildflower gardens she plants in her yard that encourage and feed her bees. Come learn about the short life cycle of the bee and how their needs change with the season.
Perhaps you can help get things buzzing around Baton Rouge, too. Our second presenter is Master Gardener Carol Paine. She discovered a beautiful hidden rose garden in her first home and knew she must learn how to take care of them. She now has about 35 rose bushes in her yard and loves sharing her knowledge of them. Many people are afraid of roses because some do require special care, but today there are many varieties that are truly easy to grow. Learn about the wide variety of species, how and when to prune them, what diseases commonly affect them, and how to make them a centerpiece of your yard. Books and Music with Kids Orchestra Feb. 10
Collect new musical skills! Discover new library books! Learn new dance steps! Kids’ Orchestra invites children, ages 5-11, to an experiential program that combines library books with music education. Each month, children will explore a theme as they learn about an instrument, sing a song, explore a dance, and play a game – all inspired by a book in the East Baton Rouge Parish Library collection. Books & Music is celebrating this carnival season by placing a spotlight on “When the Saints Go Marching in,” a traditional spiritual that you are very likely to hear during February in Louisiana. You might also hear it at a New Orleans Saints football game. Brass bands in parades often play this melody. Come see Ashley Bryan’s beautiful illustrations in the book Let It Shine. Also, play a partner song game, meet a professional musician, and practice solfege syllables and hand signs. What are those? Come and find out!! Group Tai Chi Class
Join us for free, hour-long Tai Chi sessions and meet friends through group practice. EBR Master Gardeners February 2024
The East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners is excited to open its Library series on Thursday, February 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library at Goodwood with two exceptional programs, “Growing Tomatoes,” and “We are Being Invaded.”
Everyone loves homegrown tomatoes, don’t they? One of EBRMG’s newest Master Gardeners, Tony Bourgeois, will share with you many of the things he has learned about growing them. Learn about the varieties that succeed and some of the secrets he uses to help them grow and produce more luscious fruit, as well as how to avoid the many problems commonly experienced in growing tomatoes.
The second program, “We are Being Invaded,” will be presented by Master Gardener Floyd Sones. There are many invasive species trying to take over your garden. Many of these have a very destructive impact on our native plants. Floyd will identify these invaders for you and tell you how to prevent or control them
