Get your kicks on this site about Route 66! Created by the staff at Northern Arizona University’s Cline Library (librarians ROCK!!), Route 66 in Arizona: Don’t Forget Winona! is a great way to explore the fabled highway as it winds through the Northern Arizona desert.
Of course, Route 66 ain’t what it used to be, and that’s the joy of this online exhibit. It features “then & now” pics of classic highway architecture — and the interactive Google map marks tons of landmarks, with pictures and links to more information.
If you’re planning a trip out west, this site can provide some interesting ideas of places to stop. If you’re an armchair traveler, you’ll have a blast checking out the mapped locations. (all you Boomers out there — be sure to check out the info on Winslow… Take it easy!)
