Business with Baton Rouge, Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden’s Small Business Opportunity Program, will kick off its 2014 Next Level Training Education series with a free workshop on legal strategies this coming Monday, January 27 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the new Main Library at Goodwood. The program, entitled “Legal Strategies for Business Success,” will be hosted by Monique Edwards, a veteran attorney with the Edwards Law Group.
The program is the first of five “training education programs” designed to help local established entrepreneurs take their businesses to the “next level.” Other programs in the Next Level Training Education Series, which is co-sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration and SCORE, a nonprofit organization that mentors small businesses, are:
- Monday, Feb. 24, “Community Collaboration – From a Business Perspective,” featuring Gail Grover, Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for the City-Parish.
- Monday, March 31, “OSHA Compliance for the Construction Industry – Writing Safety Plans,” featuring Corey S. Gaines, OSHA Consultation Supervisor, Louisiana Workforce Commission.
- Monday, April 28, “EBR’s Small Business Loan Fund,” featuring TruFund Financial.
- Monday, May 19, “Emergency Business Preparedness and Business Continuity,” featuring the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
There will also be a Google “Getting your Business Online” event at the River Center on Friday, March 28, from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The Google event will be part of the Mayor’s first “Start your Business, Grow your Business, Finance your Business” Expo. This Expo will highlight technical assistance and financial resources for budding and existing entrepreneurs.

Business with Baton Rouge is part of the Mayor’s Small Business Investment Initiative to stimulate the local economy through small business growth. The program is funded by an SBA grant obtained by the Mayor for supporting entrepreneurship, creating jobs, and stimulating local economic recovery and growth.
