WRKF-FM 89.3 Hosts Town Hall Meeting, Radio Series on Crime in Baton Rouge

Why is crime so prevalent in Baton Rouge? What are the issues? What can be done to help stop it? These questions and more will be addressed during a radio series and a Town Hall Meeting on Crime in Baton Rouge on Thursday, March 31.  Both events are being hosted by WRKF-FM 89.3, Baton Rouge’s public radio station.

A panel discussion is scheduled 6-7:30pm Thursday, March 31, at the Carver Branch of the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library, 720 Terrace Street. Area leaders will join the discussion including Baton Rouge Mayor Pro Tem Mike Walker; Captain Tom Morris, Commander of the Homicide Division of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office; Dr. Edward Shihadeh of the Louisiana State University Crime and Policy Evaluations Research Group (CAPERS); Michael Morris of 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge; and other community leaders. They will hold a candid discussion on the issues surrounding crime and possible solutions, and public input is welcome. WRKF reporters will moderate the event.

The meeting will be preceded by an on-air feature series, which includes panel participants. The series will air on WRKF-FM 89.3 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 29, 30, 31, and will be posted online in podcast and text form.
