Sign up today for East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program!
Reading to your child is a great way to encourage literacy from an early age, and this program provides extra incentive for reluctant readers. There are neat prizes available for every 250 books read, and the library will provide reading logs to help you keep track:
- 250 books – A special sticker and a book bag
- 500 books – A special sticker and a decal of Off We Go! by Will Hillenbrand
- 750 books – A special sticker and a poster of Off We Go!
- 1,000 books – A special sticker and a certificate of merit, a copy of the book Off We Go! by Will Hillenbrand and an invitation to a special party to be held every August at the Main Library at Goodwood for those who complete the program.
Does your little one have a favorite that they want to hear over and over again? You can count it every time. Reading the same book several times lets kids get familiar with the story, and they’ll start to get an idea of the way stories work. Books read at daycare, pre-k, Head Start, and library storytimes count, too!
