One Book, One Community Events in March

If you missed the One Book, One Community kickoff event in February, don’t worry! It’s not too late to get involved in this year’s celebration of literacy in Baton Rouge with Kingfish: The Reign of Huey P. Long by Richard D. White, Jr.

OBOC 2016

First, you should head over to IMAG0284the infoguide, which has lots of cool updates based on what we did at the party. You can check out the pictures first (with more on Facebook!), and then head over to the “Speeches and Songs” tab to listen to what some locals had to say about the man himself. You can even find links to some recordings of Long’s most famous speeches. Vote on some Baton Rouge themes to see which of your favorites match with Huey’s!

Check out the “Events” page on the infoguide to find out what’s happening this month at a branch near you. We’d especially like to highlight next week’s “Long in Lit” panel discussion with local historians and literature professors, happening here at the Main Library.

If you like debate, we’ve got a couple of great events coming up later in the month. The first, on March 15th at the Main Library, will be a presentation and discussion hosted by political analyst and radio commentator Jim Engster on what Huey Long’s campaigns might have looked like in the age of social media. Eden Park is also throwing a murder mystery mock trial based on Huey Long’s assassination; that will take place on March 16th.

Come on out, EBRP!
